I am an Artist

As many of you are probably aware, I have taken a break from writing for the time being. Ever since publishing The Unusual Isles, my love of writing is not nearly as strong as it used to be, and I needed to take a break. I now have an explanation to all of you as of why.

I am an artist. It is as plain and simple as that.

However, my definition of an artist is very different from society’s definition. In most people’s mind, an artist is a person who draws, paints, sketches, creates things on paper in order to express creativity. However, my definition of an artist is much broader than that. To me, being an artist means expressing your creativity and imagination through any media, whether that media is words, paint, films, dance, fashion, music, or anything else really. I have always been an artist, ever since I was little, but the media through which I have expressed my creativity has changed throughout the years.

I have never really invested myself in any activity or interest for more than three to four years at a time. However, I have always expressed myself through some sort of artistic outlet. It was dancing when I was really young, music when I was slightly older and still now a little bit, and writing up until recently. Right now, I am in the niche of what society would call an artist, painting and drawing and sketching.

The thing is, right now I’m just using a different outlet in order to express my creativity. It doesn’t mean I don’t have ideas for stories or novel anymore, but I just don’t have the motivation I need at the moment to put them into words on paper.

I truly do want to get back to writing at some point in time. The stories I left off writing keep on calling to me in order to be continued, and I do want to write them, but I find that I can’t just sit down at my computer and write at hours at a time like I used to. I don’t know why, but I just can’t. I hoping I won’t have to leave those stories unwritten, but right now, I’m just doing what I want to do, while I still can.
